MedTravelExpo, Russia’s only specialized exhibition for medical and wellness tourism, brings together exhibitors and professional buyers from dozens of countries each year. On this highly international stage, Russian interpreters serve as an indispensable communication hub—they do more than translate languages; they build bridges of trust between medical expertise and business negotiation.

Why MedTravelExpo Requires Professional Interpreters

Organized by Expocentre, MedTravelExpo has been held annually in Moscow since 2017 and is a core event of Russian Healthcare Week. The 2025 edition attracted more than 8,700 professional visitors from over 50 countries and 86 Russian regions, with exhibitors from Russia, Belarus, China, Iran, and other countries. The exhibition’s flagship event—the International Medical Tourism Workshop—specifically arranges face-to-face negotiations between exhibitors and overseas medical tourism agency buyers. Over two days, more than 200 meetings and negotiations took place between medical tourism agencies and exhibitors, resulting in framework cooperation agreements and plans to expand the export of Russian medical services.

Buyers at the 2025 workshop included specially invited heads of medical tourism agencies from Azerbaijan, Georgia, India, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tunisia, and Turkey, while Russia was represented by agencies from Moscow, Yaroslavl, and Perm. These meetings involved highly professional dialogue: explaining treatment protocols, negotiating service pricing, and discussing cooperation terms. Ordinary translation cannot suffice—what is needed is a Russian interpreter who understands both medicine and business.

Core Competencies Required

The official language of MedTravelExpo is primarily Russian, while international exhibitors and buyers typically use English, Arabic, Persian, Turkish, and other languages. Moscow-based interpretation service providers have listed MedTravelExpo as a key service project and offer interpreters covering dozens of languages.

Beyond language proficiency, interpreters in medical tourism contexts need to:

  • Master medical terminology: specialized vocabulary in rehabilitation medicine, spa therapy, surgery, and health management
  • Understand the medical tourism business model: accurately convey service package contents, pricing structures, and visa and reception procedures
  • Possess cross-cultural sensitivity: understand the medical preferences and communication habits of clients from the Middle East, Central Asia, and East Asia

Booking in Advance Is Essential

Advice from multiple translation service providers is highly consistent: the earlier you book, the better your chances of securing an experienced interpreter. Senior interpreters are in high demand during peak medical exhibition season. Confirming orders early not only locks in the right candidate but also gives interpreters sufficient time to familiarize themselves with exhibitors’ materials and terminology.

For Chinese medical institutions, wellness tourism agencies, or medical tourism enterprises planning to attend MedTravelExpo (scheduled for December 8–11, 2025, at Crocus Expo in Moscow, and expected again in 2026), now is the time to begin securing interpretation resources. Multiple Moscow-based interpretation service providers have already opened booking channels for the exhibition.

In an industry where trust is paramount, an excellent Russian interpreter is not merely a “mouthpiece”—they are a key player helping exhibitors win international cooperation opportunities.
